The Body Knows Exactly What it Needs

we just have trained ourselves not to listen

Once, my therapist asked me if I had ever done a body-scan. I stared at her blankly & cocked an eyebrow. “Yeah no,” was my reply. I had no idea what the hell she was talking about. But I took her direction, closed my eyes, imagined I was in my “happy place” while she walked me through each & every body part — from the tip of my toes up to the very crown of my head. When we were done, she asked me what I had felt, if anything at all.

Again, I had no idea what the hell she was talking about.

Try as she did, it took me a very (very) long time to understand what she was trying to accomplish with me.

I had been so disconnected from my Body for so long that I had created this thick film of numbness. Of protection.

Oftentimes when we are unaware of or ignore our Body’s messages, itgives up, & a fracture of trust between You and your Body can begin to occur here. This can manifest in a million different subtle (& not so subtle ways), such as:
numbness (what don’t you want to feel?), indigestion (what kind of energy are you ingesting?), itching (what are you itching to get out? get away from?), insomnia (what do you fear or mistrust when you close your eyes?).

We train ourselves not to listen to our Bodies, because listening leads to Knowing, & Knowing leads to change, shedding, & expansion. Knowing leads to our greatness.

And shit are we ever terrified of our own greatness.

Because if we stepped into that greatness, then we’d have no choice but to look at our fears, our narratives, our stories in the face & say:

“No more.”
